Hello there, thanks for dropping by!
I am a 40 year old weirdo who loves music and going to gigs, and this page is all about me
My Story
Music has always been a very big part of my life, when I was very young, my parents ran a weekly country music club called the General Custer and they would have live bands playing. We would also go to other country music clubs or shows to see bands, like when I was 16, my parents took me to London to see the legendary Willie Nelson.
My parents would also organise charity concerts and gigs with live bands so I grew up appreciating live music and learnt that live music was the best music.
When I was 12 I got into pop music, I was crazy on The Backstreet Boys, A1, N'Sync, 911, Boyzone, Westlife, 5ive, Britney Spears, Will Smith, Aqua and B*Witched. I still listen to a lot of them now, can't live life without a little bit of pop music lol.
My taste in music started changing when I got into The Moffatts at 13 years old, as they had a few songs that were a little bit on the rocky side and they were the "Canadian version of Hanson" lol.
Then when I went to college at 16 years old to study music, there was a lot of people on my course who were into alternative music, who introduced me to heavier music. So the first non-pop or country album I brought was Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish album and basically listened to it on repeat for 2 months lol. I just loved it so much and this then led onto listening to Korn, Slipknot, etc and the heavy metal era began.
I think that music is a very powerful thing, being able to put your emotions into a song and make it a message to share is something not to be taken lightly. Since my dad passed away in 2020, songs now affect me differently becuase they have become more relatable or the words mean something else to me now.
That is why, in October 2022, I decided to change my travel blog, Suzy The Explorer, into Suzy's Musical World. Music had taken on a whole new meaning in my life and I wanted to make it a much more important part of my life by sharing the music that I love with people from all around the world. Although, I have missed being Suzy The Explorer so I have started the Travel tab on this website so that I can start writing travel related posts again. Keep an eye out for new posts.
2 bands that I owe a lot to are Blind Channel and Lost Zone, without them, I wouldn't be who I am right now. Their music came into my life when I needed it the most and because of them I have done things that I never thought I would. Because of Blind Channel, I learnt to push myself to drive long distances for the music I love and that it's ok to be me. Because of Lost Zone, their music moved me so much that they helped me find the courage to go abroad on my own, to a country where I didn't know the language, to go to a gig to see them live where I didn't know anyone else except them and got through it. I pushed through my anxiety and had an absolutely awesome night.
I'm a massive horror film and Harry Potter fan. I feel that music is the finishing touch to any film, you need the right music to set the mood of the scene. It's all about building an atmosphere to intensify the feeling of the scene. For many years, I would make a yearly trip to London for FrightFest which is a horror film festival where a lot of new films would have their UK or World premier and a lot of the time, the director, actors and crew would be there so we could speak to them about the films. I met a lot of tv and film heros at that festival.
I have been with my husband Sean since 2001, he is a musician so after my parents stopped putting on gigs, Sean has kept me involved as a roadie at his gigs as he has been in and out bands since I met him. He mainly plays the bass guitar but he can play most instruments that he picks up, he was even in the Kent Youth orchestra playing the trumpet when he was in school lol. He is super musically talented.
I don't have any kids but I do have 2 furbabies called Sunny who is a 8 year old Shih Tzu Chinese Crested cross, Lilith who is a black cat who isn't a year old yet. I have 2 musk turtles called Ozzy and Tommi who are only a few months old and 15 Black Neon Tetras which I haven't named because I can't tell them apart lol. I also have a lot of nieces and nephews so I spoil them.
I live near Maidstone in Kent in the South East of England, it's just 40 miles outside of London so it's quite easy to get to London and Brighton for gigs but I have no problem with driving further for gigs. In fact, the furthest I have driven to a gig is Glasgow in Scotland.
So that's me, I hope to see you at a gig soon xx
